Welcome to the Simien lodges

A tukel is the name that Ethiopians give to a house. In the case of Simien lodge the tukel make two rooms with two bathrooms. Each room is of a good quality with 2 large single beds (2m x 1m). There is a bathroom with shower. All rooms have under-floor heating by solar (which of course works when there is sun). The beds have duvet bedding with pure white cotton sheets. Each room has a sheltered balcony. All rooms have fibreglass insulation to the ceiling, walls and floor. Remember we are a mountain lodge and nights can be chilly. So come prepared with warm clothes.

The lodge is located at the beginning of the escarpment, about 22km from Debarak which is the ‘frontier town’ of the Simien Mountain National Park. Entrance tickets to the park are purchased at the park office in Debarak. The park gate itself is at Sawre, about 16km from Debarak and then the Lodge is another 6km past the gate where the scenery really opens out. The core area of the park (the original part of the park) is in dark grey. The areas added recently are in light grey. The escarpment starts around the location of Simien Lodge. From Debarak town to the escarpment is largely farmland.
